For this project, Yakovenko turns to the classic acoustic piano trio format. His playing is at once academic and free, balancing noble precision with fiery improvisation. The piano dominates the soundscape, yet constantly engages in dialogue with bass and drums, giving the music a sense of both authority and openness.
The album consists of seven original compositions, all written by Yakovenko. From the very first track, “Opening”, the music builds on contrasts: lyrical passages meet sharp accents, softness collides with drive, and tension transforms into release. Each piece expands this counterpoint, creating a dynamic and immersive narrative.
Hyperfocus is music of clarity, focus, and inner energy. It is where classical discipline meets the living pulse of jazz improvisation — a sound that resonates with both elegance and intensity, leaving a lasting impression.
