Far from being a straightforward reinterpretation, Promenade is a daring reinvention that reaches to the classical past via a creative invitation from the present.‍

“For me, the heritage of the past is a treasure trove to be reimagined and shared with new audiences,” Yakovenko shares.

This work revives each movement of Mussorgsky’s suite in Yakovenko’s distinctive style, blending classical technique with the spontaneity of jazz and experimental music. Each of the twelve pieces in 'Promenade' corresponds to a movement in the original suite, but Yakovenko pushes the boundaries of the familiar through improvisation and innovative techniques.

The result is a truly unique sonic experience that traverses genres, incorporating elements of classical, jazz, and experimental music into a cohesive whole.

His 'Promenade' is both an homage to Mussorgsky and a daring transformation, reflecting the composer's original melodies through a distinctly modern lens. Adding another layer to this innovative project, Yakovenko collaborated with eleven contemporary artists who created visual interpretations to accompany each piece.

This interdisciplinary dialogue between music and art elevates Promenade beyond a purely musical experience. It invites the listener into a virtual gallery where sound and vision intertwine, creating a truly immersive and multi-sensory encounter.
